In writing you have to go through three stages:
1. Writing for yourself
2. Writing for others
3. Writing for publication
Only practice will get you to the third stage. There is the 10,000 hours rule. You have to practice 10,000 hours to be successful. And even then, success is not guaranteed. And of course, how you practice is also important. You have to improve.

Purposeful practice is important. Step out of your comfort zone. Set goals that are truly challenging. And look for feedback. At first it might be local classes. But later, you may need expert feedback and coaches. Writing can be trained. It is hard work that takes time. But every writer has learned to write. It is not just a gift.
