It takes about 10 years of constant improvement to master a subject. A coach/feedback is very important and helps to identify week spots. Mental models and visualizations help to remember things. Our brain is very visual. You remember an elephant better by its appearance than by the word.


November 2nd, 2023

Effortful learning changes our brain. Mnemonics help to remember things. No pain, no gain.


November 4th, 2023

Regular training times. Spaced testing week/month/year. Randomizing learning tasks. All this helps you learn faster and more efficiently. But it doesn't feel like it. 


November 5th, 2023

Elaboration: Finding additional layers of meaning in new material

Generation: The process of finding an answer or solving a problem before the solution is known.

Reflection: Is the act of reviewing what has been learned and asking questions about it

Calibration: The act of re-adjusting yourself to what you actually know and what you do not know. External feedback is very helpful for this (tests, coach)

Mnemonic devices: Mental models to store knowledge and information in a specific way in your brain.


November 6th, 2023

For lifelong learning you need to find a way to incorporate the above techniques into your learning topics. And if you teach, you should also teach how to learn and prepare your lessons accordingly.
