Repetition does not work. It is a waste of time. You don't learn effectively by mastering a text. You have to adapt the text by working with its content.

Reflecting on things is an inner repetition and also leads to improvement when you think about what to add or change. Testing is also a great tool. The earlier you test yourself or your students, the better the results will be. Taking a test, the day after leads to better memorization than testing a week after teaching it.
